Learning in Jamaica without exposing private communities

Selectors and dancers from abroad have long learned the music by spending time in Jamaican dances, studios and yards rather than from records alone. That apprenticeship happens in private spaces belonging to people who did not ask to be documented, which is why what can be told about it and what should be are not the same question.
