Guinness Foreign Extra Stout (Jamaica)

The stout is Irish; the Jamaican version is brewed in Kingston by Desnoes & Geddes under licence, with Guinness Flavour Extract blended into locally brewed beer — a colonial-era export formula that outlived the empire that designed it and became a Jamaican drink in its own right.

Its cultural position is the opposite of Red Stripe's. Where the lager is light and social, stout in Jamaica carries a reputation for strength and virility, which put it in the same conversation as tonic wine long before Magnum existed. Guinness was the drink Magnum was explicitly built to displace, and it answered by putting its name on the sound clash: Guinness Sounds of Greatness, a sponsored competition and television series, made a stout brand into a clash promoter.
