Africa Unite: Addis Ababa (2005)
Well supported
A twelve-hour, globally televised concert at Meskel Square, Addis Ababa, on 6 February 2005 -- what would have been Bob Marley's 60th birthday -- organised by the Marley family with UNICEF, the World Bank and the African Union. Performers included Rita, Damian, Ziggy and Stephen Marley, the I-Threes, Angelique Kidjo and Ethiopia's Teddy Afro. Crowd-size reports range from "thousands" (Al Jazeera's own figure) up to a widely repeated but less-sourced 300,000.
