Neville Livingston died in March 2021, the last surviving member of the Wailers' original trio — though not of the group's founding line-up, since Beverley Kelso, who sang on the earliest sessions, outlived him. The response marked the closing of the group that carried Jamaican music to the world: official honours, tribute broadcasts, and a national argument about what was owed to a man who had spent his later career refusing to be a nostalgia act.
