Dancehall-descended club style originating in Martinique, built on simplified versions of the rhythm patterns that ran through Jamaican dancehall from the mid-1990s to the mid-2000s -- Dave Kelly's among the most-cited models -- and carried into mainland French clubs from the French West Indies. The lineage runs parallel to the better-documented case of the Dem Bow riddim reshaping into reggaeton: a Jamaican rhythmic template adopted, simplified and localised until it reads as a genre of its own. It is now the dominant Caribbean-descended club sound among younger French audiences.
