Carlyle Palmer

Co-founder, with his brothers Jeffrey and Harry, of Jet Star Records, which grew out of their earlier Pama Records and became, for four decades until its 2008 sale, one of the UK's largest reggae distributors. Born in Clarendon, Jamaica, he crossed to Britain alone by ship at sixteen to join his brothers, and the three of them built their businesses, a nightclub, a real estate agency and the record company, out of Harlesden in north-west London at a time when the neighbourhood's own letting boards read "No Blacks, No Irish, No dogs".

In March 2026 Brent City Council honoured the Palmer brothers among twelve reggae pioneers for their contribution to the borough and to British reggae; Carlyle, in his eighties, accepted for the family with his wife Beverley, married sixty years. He and Beverley have since returned permanently to Jamaica after fifty-five years abroad and live in Mandeville.
