DJ Playero
Well supported
Puerto Rican producer Pedro Torruellas, whose cassette-only mixtapes -- the Playero series, running from the early 1990s -- are where reggaeton was assembled. He took the Jamaican-descended dembow loop arriving from Panama and New York, ran San Juan rappers over it, and sold the results by hand. Daddy Yankee is on those tapes as a teenager.
