Lillian Allen

Allen began working in dub poetry after meeting Jamaican dub poet Oku Onuora in Cuba in 1978.

Lillian Allen has been a central figure of Toronto’s reggae and dub-poetry scene since the late 1970s.

One of the original architects of dub poetry in Canada.

Grew up in Spanish Town before emigrating to Canada in 1974.

Performs verses in a rhythmic, declamatory style rooted in Jamaican speech patterns.
