Jamaican-born, Bronx-raised vocalist (Edmund Carl Aiken, born 1962) who pioneered a fusion of reggae/dancehall toasting with hip-hop in 1980s New York; his 1992 single 'Jamaican in New York' (reworking Sting's 'Englishman in New York') captured the Caribbean immigrant experience of the city. A key figure in the NYC reggae-hip-hop crossover (Wikipedia 'Shinehead'; AllMusic).
