"King David" -- Kukudoo

2009 gospel recording by Kukudoo (the stage name of David McDermott) that became a fixture of Jamaican mourning and Sunday mornings alike: a nine-night staple across the island, and the song most likely to be heard when the selector turns the wake toward church. Full title "King David (See People Business and Leave It Alone)", produced by World Shock Media.

McDermott began singing at nine-nights as a boy; a church band's engineer secretly recorded one such performance, and the CD that followed spread taxi to taxi across the island, launching his career from a machine operator at Bernard Lodge Sugar Estate to one of Jamaica's most-booked gospel artists. He died 8 May 2026.
