Gussie Clarke's studio, opened in Kingston at the end of the 1980s and built to a standard the island had rarely had. It gave the late-1980s and early-1990s records made there a clean, wide, deliberately modern sound — a deliberate answer to the rawness of the digital dancehall around it — and a great deal of the era's best-known singing was cut in it.
