Leonard Bartley (1 July 1971 - 19 July 2022), billed Warhead, the clash deejay of his generation. He debuted in 1994 with "Lend Out Mi Mercy", cut at Penthouse with his friend Lenky, and topped the Jamaican chart in 1995 with "Mavis". His reputation rests on one night: at Sting 2000 at Jamworld in Portmore he took on Ninjaman, Bounty Killer and Beenie Man in a single clash, and is generally reckoned to have beaten all three — the most argued-over performance in the tradition. His own camp's reading of it, published after his death, was that winning was the worst thing that ever happened to his career. He served a fourteen-month prison sentence in Florida, which he wrote about himself in "The Letter". Harvel "Gadaffi" Hart managed him for roughly two decades, from a meeting at Penthouse in 1993. He was found dead on 19 July 2022, aged 51, at a guest house on Walkers Avenue in St Andrew; police reported no foul play and the autopsy was inconclusive, and no cause has been established. He was buried on 17 September 2022. Remembered with memorial framing.
