St Catherine Parish

Well supported

The parish immediately west of Kingston, capital Spanish Town, which was Jamaica's capital until 1872. Portmore's growth turned much of it into a dormitory for the city, and the parish holds Sligoville, where Leonard Howell's Pinnacle commune established the first organised Rastafari settlement.
