Black Kat
Well supported
Black Kat is a clash-specialist sound system formed around 1990 at Christianfield in Manchester Parish and widely billed “The Killing Machine.” Its reputation rests on custom dubplates, direct sound-to-sound competition and a championship run across Jamaican and international clashes. Pink Panther (Edward Johnson) and Rodney “Unzie” Johnson were central to the sound's rise; Panther later departed. Foundational selector Steven Chang, who died in 2016, is also remembered in the sound's history. Black Kat's documented rivalries include Bass Odyssey, King Addies, Killamanjaro and Sound Trooper.
